During our recent response to Burma, our operations were hampered by not having adequate intelligence from the disaster site (CNN and BBC were excluded, the telephone system collapsed during the initial phases of the disaster, thus no email). As a result of the Burma experience, we are setting up three HF radio “listening posts”, one at our Alexandria depot, one at our secondary storage site in rural NSW and one in Darwin. The purpose of these installations will be to monitor short-wave broadcasts from the country involved, as well as those from neighbouring countries.
We believe that we may be able to also receive “long haul” frequencies used by missions, NGO’s and the UN throughout South-East Asia. Thank you to Emmerson Communications for a communications shelter and Thank you to Motorola Australia for a Rohdes-Schwarz receiver unit

ODRI have recently purchased an older model second hand 4WD Range Rover which is capable of pulling a dual axle trailer to assist us in our collection and procurement. Regular collection of material is an essential part of our operation in order to be able to provide regular responses.

The Range Rover needs some work to be made fully roadworthy and we estimate that along with registration and insurance it will cost around $2,300 to get this vehicle on to the road.
Could someone assist us with funds towards this important project. |

We are preparing to establish a disaster response “hub” in Bankok to service the South-East Asia region in partnership with the Exodus Foundation and the King of Thailand. We expect to build up stores of disaster response materials in Bankok to allow quicker responses in South East Asia. |

Disaster Relief Containers |

Our aim is to provide victims of natural and manmade disasters with basic equipment and supplies in the post-emergency phase of the event To accomplish this task, we hold in stock emergency housing and, supplies for 1000 persons, a field hospital to service the camp, a water treatment plant and a battery powered lighting system. The purpose of these containers will be to provide "temporary" housing, basic healthcare facilities and a meeting hall for a displaced population of 1000 persons. Our best estimates are that it will require at least three, forty foot shipping containers to transport the equipment. It is likely that a fourth container will be needed to accommodate "ad hoc" donated items. |
